The Puja The Puja is one of the steps in the progressive meditation system taught by The Theosophical Fellowship. There are three versions of the Puja; this version invokes the Presence of the Lord Maitreya, the Risen Christ and future Buddha of Earth, into your heart and into your daily life to give healing and contribute gradually to upliftment and illumination. Meditating using the Puja helps develop and purify the quality of devotion to the World Teacher of Earth, the Christ, as well as to the teacher within you, your Higher Self and Soul.
When you sit in the Light and the Heart of the Lord Maitreya by using this Puja, you have the opportunity to gain spiritual insight and understanding. This insight can help you to live a more spiritual life built upon the principles of Theosophy; and when this happens, your relationships to family, friends, and associates will become more giving and more beautiful.
The Puja is offered to help you develop a balanced spiritual life – one that combines carrying out the duties and responsibilities of ordinary life with nurturing a conscious and harmonious relationship with the celestial realms.
Preparation You may wish to have peaceful music playing while you meditate. Sit comfortably, either with a straight back (legs and arms uncrossed) or in the lotus posture. Close your eyes and relax both your body and your mind. Affirm the following prayers and invocations silently within.
Protection I ask for the protection of the Cosmic Light. Michael, Thou art that Light.
Visualisation (1-2 minutes) See yourself seated in the pink Heart of Maitreya, the Risen Christ, the future Buddha of the Earth. See your heart centre glowing with light as the Heart Light of Maitreya enlightens your heart centre. See the light ascend from your heart centre to your third eye. See it glowing with light.
Invocation Before me I see the Christ Triangle of Maitreya, Kuthumi, and Jesus. (Visualise this golden triangle.) Behind me I see Michael the Protector of Earth. (Visualise Michael with the sword of Truth in His right hand standing behind you.)
I am ready to serve man and Earth according to my karma, my capabilities, my inner talents, and my soul development. I will put all this to good use throughout this day and night.
Holy Spirit – Mother Christ, guide my way, help me to perform my earthly duties well. Holy Spirit – Mother Christ, guide my tongue, help me to control my speech, my thoughts, and my feelings.
From the Heart of Maitreya I live and I breathe. Within that Heart I centre my awareness. I Am That, That I Am.
Prayer One or more prayers may be said here, and/or you may invoke any Master whose Presence you desire to feel within your heart centre. For example: Beloved Lord Jesus, appear within my heart. Make Your Presence felt.
Meditation Meditate for 5-20 minutes on the Heart of Maitreya or on His Light. At the end of the meditation, see this Light envelop the Earth.
Sing OM three times.
Finishing Prayer of Thanksgiving To you, Great Master of the Hierarchy, Lord Maitreya, I send my gratitude that I have been permitted to sit within Your Heart and within Your Aura.
My goal is clear. My path is clear. My love for You is dear. I now take Your gifts of the Heart with me into this day and night. (or say, 'night and day', if you are meditating in the evening.)
Daily Practice It is recommended that the Puja be done as a daily practice. It may be done either in the morning or the evening, for 10 to 30 minutes.
You may add invocations such as those given by the Tibetan Master to Alice Bailey, and prayers that you know or that come from within. However, do not include too many prayers and invocations to start with, as they will bring too much energy into your life. Build up your relationship with the inner worlds slowly. Use the Puja as a tool to help you. If you have difficulties in life, do the Puja, and in the energy of the Lord Maitreya ask to see or to know the reason behind your difficulties and how to solve them. If you have fears, surrender them into the Heart of Maitreya and feel how trust and confidence in God returns.
